Marinas, Shipyards, Boat Builders, and Yacht Clubs
The marine trade industry is vital to the economies of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, supporting thousands of businesses and marine-related jobs across the region. The boating industry is a great source of fun during the warmer months, but behind the scenes, there is a great deal of hard work that goes into the industry. Whether you’re a boat builder, marine service provider, marina, boatyard, or any one of the other businesses that support the industry, there are safety hazards and exposures around every corner. Each type of operation conducted in this industry poses a unique set of safety risks.
For over 30 years, Beacon has been proud to provide workers’ compensation insurance to the marine trade industries in Rhode Island. Now, we’re extending our expertise and support to marine businesses in Massachusetts and Connecticut. We understand the industry and the challenges your company faces, and we’re here to support you and your employees.
Safety Training
Beacon offers seminars and webinars to assist with educating employees on most safety topics. Many of the training courses cover the equipment used on the job site such as ladders, aerial lifts and forklifts. In addition, Beacon offers OSHA 10 General Construction & General Industry Courses several times a year as well as online OSHA 10-hour webinars to enable you to earn your 10-hour certification.
Developing a Safety Program
Every marina, shipyard, boat builder, and yacht club should have a safety program to include training for employees on procedures to prevent common injuries like slips and falls, contact from harmful substances, falls, repetitive motion, and strains and sprains from handling materials. New hire safety orientations and seasonal employee training are essential to educate new or part time employees in the hazards that exist in the workplace. All marine industry sectors including should also practice fire safety by installing the proper equipment, training employees on mitigating hazards, and implementing fire safety procedures on any type of job site.
